One product I enjoy making is wrought-iron fireplace tools. These one-of-a-kind, hand-forged sets involve a great deal of time and attention to detail, but the outcome is rewarding. For some fireplace tool sets, I incorporate unique twists and textures for an original look. Others are more simple, offering a classic vintage look. All are purposefully made to keep your fireplace well maintained.

I can custom forge wrought iron fireplace tool sets with unique features and ironwork techniques.
Here, I am wire wheeling the fireplace stand shown in the photos above, which is the final step before applying the finish. It's always satisfying to see all the forging scale being removed, leaving the natural steel color and exposing the hammer marks and hand forged texture.
After this, I finish the tool set with a clear laquar to preserve the natural steel coloring, hand-forged texture, and each hammer mark that contributed to this unique, one-of-a-kind piece.

Hi, I am Pete VanDyken, the owner and blacksmith behind Van’s Iron Works. Thank you for visiting my website! Van’s Iron Works started in Kalamazoo, Michigan by my great-grandfather who immigrated from the Netherlands in 1911. I inherited some of his tools while I was in my teens and developed a passion for the art of blacksmithing, a passion I’m still cultivating today.
With the heat of the forge, iron can be shaped between the hammer and anvil in ways that cannot be achieved any other way. While closely matching pieces can be made by hand forging, no two will be exactly the same, creating unique one-of-a-kind projects. The possibilities are almost endless!
